Alerts Dashboard

Data is great, but you and your teams need to know what action you can take to improve performance across your site. For example, if you are a social media editor, you want to know when an article should be posted to Facebook. Or, if you are managing SEO, you want to know when search traffic has suddenly increased or decreased for specific articles so you can make the appropriate changes. The Newsroom Activity Dashboard helps to solve this problem by providing action-oriented alerts for your whole editorial team.

In the Activity Dashboard, all activities are listed that Newsroom has recommended for your articles. You can view All Alerts, or just the alerts you’ve configured in My Alerts.  For more information about setting up My Alerts, please see this page.

Alert Types

The following list includes the types of alerts you will find in the Activity Dashboard. Keep in mind that our Newsroom team can update traffic thresholds for each alert if needed.

Activity Name Activity Definition Action You Can Take
Traffic Spike Significant traffic is coming from one source Check article to ensure internal links are correct, video units are added and correct ad packages are live.  If the referring source is a partner, consider sending them more articles they might link to.
Search Drop When there is a sharp decrease in traffic from Google or other search sources Check to see if headline or article needs to be updated, or if a follow-up article is warranted.
Facebook Opportunity When an article has gained significant traffic on your site but has not been posted to your Facebook account yet Post article on Facebook to increase traffic.
Consider Posting on Homepage Article with significant social traffic, or is highly engaging, has not been posted on the homepage Post article to homepage to increase traffic.
Instant Hit When an article has a sharp initial increase in traffic Check article to ensure internal links are correct, video units are added and correct ad packages are live.  Consider sending this to parters who might send you more traffic, or send push notifications.
Video Opportunity If an article has a substantial amount of site traffic, but no recognizable video component on the page Add a video component to your page to increase page revenue.
Old Article, Fresh Traffic When an older article has picked up traffic recently Consider updating the article, linking to newer coverage, or writing a follow-up to leverage momentum.
Reddit Hit We leverage the Reddit API to identify the most active posts about articles from your site on Reddit. The article’s author or your Social Media Manager may want to engage in the Reddit thread or see what kind of comments are coming in
Reddit Engagement We leverage the Reddit API to identify posts about your articles that are getting a significant number of comments on Reddit. The article’s author or your Social Media Manager may want to engage in the Reddit thread or see what kind of comments are coming in
A/B Test Complete (Front Page) This is when the A/B test has been completed. Review A/B tests results. For a significant winner, we recommend changing the headline/image in your CMS so you get the benefits on search and social.
Article Under/Over Performs (Front Page) This fires when an article is performing greatly above or below the baseline CTR for the position it’s in Move over-performing stories to more prominent positions and promote on social media, and move underperforming content down or a/b test new headlines/images to increase engagement.
Topic Opportunity (Topic Insights) Your Repeat Visitors (they’ve visited twice in two weeks) are reading about this topic on other sites, but not yours Consider writing about this topic
